Have you ever used nail stickers? If not make sure you read this how to because nail strips are so hot right now that it seems every woman I know has been taking advantage of this latest trend However, it is not exactly a walk in the park to apply nail polish strips and have them last. If you do not take your time it will show right away, and your nails will look like a disaster. Here is some tips and tricks on how to apply nail wraps properly.
Make sure your hands and nails are clean and cuticle oil has been applied. Take some time and use a good moisturizer, wait until your hands are dry and not greasy. It is not recommended to use a base polish on your nails in case you want to enhance their looks with nails appliqués. Wearing a base coat can prevent the nail polish strips from adhering as they should to the surface of your nails. Use acetone to clean your nails well. The cleaner and drier the surface of the nails, the better the nail polish strips will adhere.
It’s also important to take care of your cuticles at this time as mentioned above. Cuticle oil will cause the nail strips to peal if they hadn’t had time to properly cure and stick to your finger nails.
Now that your nails are clean, you want to make sure to follow the manufacturer’s directions carefully. Each brand of nail polish strip is made of a different material so you want to make sure you follow their instructions. In general you can start by pealing the protective plastic cover of the nail strips and match them up to the nails you will be applying them to.
Place each nail polish wrap close to the cuticle(if you have a little overlap it can be fixed later with nail polish remover), on the nail bed and then press it down, from cuticle to tip, to make sure it covers the nail properly. In case the strip is too long and it many cases it will be, tuck the remaining portion of the nail strip under the tip of your nail and use a cuticle stick to press it in. Once you have done this take a fine grain nail file and remove the excess by making slow downward strokes.
Maintaining your Manicure
To get the most life out of your nail polish stickers using a good clear coat is paramount. I personally recommend OPI start to finish. With a good strong clear coat your nail strips will last from 7-10 days. The shape and length of your nails along with your daily activities will determine how long your new fancy nail art will last. Avoid prolonged exposure to soaking your nails for example wearing gloves when washing dishes will make a huge difference in the amount of time your stick on nail polish will last. If you find yourself having trouble with the application process watch a few tutorials on YouTube and you will get the hang of it. Keep in mind there is a slight learning curve.
